Flora Lim is known for her dramatic and riveting stage presence, combined with an uninhibited and passionate interpretative style. A confident and charismatic performer, she engages audiences of all ages and backgrounds with ease. Ms Lim has received accolades for her vibrant performances from enthusiastic audiences in Canada, the USA, France, the UK, the Netherlands and Singapore. Her performances have also been seen on CBC television and TVO. As a recording artist, her latest CD, A Touch of Serenity, has been released to widespread international acclaim.
Ms Lim is a successful graduate of the University of Toronto, with a musical path that began with traditional conservatory and university training. She credits Leslie Huggett's exceptional mentoring with transforming her entire approach to music-making. This singular journey has encompassed all aspects of the artistic spectrum. The result has been the development of a highly expressive musical palette which is revealed in her deeply human playing. Her fearless musical style has also been influenced by such artists as Maria Callas, Jordi Savall and Nat King Cole, while the music of Gustav Mahler is especially important to her.
Early in her musical career, Ms Lim was the recipient of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra's Fonds les amis de l'art prize and Flute Talk`s Young Artist Competition`s first prize (USA).
In recognition of her passionate commitment to music education, Ms Lim was invited to join The Flute Studio as a partner in 2008 and is now the artistic director of the studio. An inspiring and dedicated teacher, she has also written articles which have been published in respected music journals, including The Instrumentalist and Flute Talk magazine. As a recognised expert in her field, Ms Lim is often asked to conduct highly interactive and informative masterclasses and workshops. Nurturing musical potential in others has been a long-time priority for her and she continues to derive great satisfaction from helping her students further their musical horizons. Ms Lim is a member of the National Flute Association (USA) and the British Flute Association (UK). Flora Lim is represented by HAP International.
