A warm autumn greeting to all of our students and their families. Yes, we know it has been quite a while since this page was updated. So, here are some of the highlights -

In addition to the normal hectic start to another schoolyear, Ms Lim has been invited to give masterclasses at schools across York region and has been meeting lots of enthusiastic, young flutists!

At the studio, we bade a fond farewell to some of our long-time students, including Chengyan, Rowan, Connie and Laura, who graduated in the spring. Continuing with nurturing our next generation of musicians, we welcome Ethan, Ricky, Gwen and Zoe to our musical family.

Congratulations to Molly and Dana on their excellent RCM examination results from this summer - both received First Class Honours. Well done, girls!

Of course, many of us have great memories of the National Ballet of Canada's spectacular production of Alice in Wonderland - what an unforgettable experience that was, especially for those of us who were attending our first ballet.

Living up to his label of Renaissance man, Mr Huggett is presently writing his memoirs Reflections of a Part-Time Optimist and has presented several highly-praised dramatic readings.

We wish all of our boys and girls continued joy in their respective musical journeys!

As many of you know by now, the SCHIMMEL-VOGEL has taken up residence at the studio. This instrument is made by Schimmel, one of the finest piano makers in Europe. Moving day was quite an adventure and we have the photos to prove it! Look for a new photo board which documents this thrilling day. This beautiful, handcrafted instrument promises to give us all that extra shot of inspiration. In fact, Ms Lim can now be found practising the piano during her non-teaching hours (much to the consternation of her guinea pigs). A new era at the studio has now begun - feel free to spread the word.

We have several exciting events coming up at the studio this term, not least of which is our Spring Celebration on Sunday, June 12 @ 2 pm. Do mark this in your calendars everyone. (Our Saturday group will have their spring concert on Saturday, May 28.) This year, we prepare to say goodbye to three of our treasured, long-time students - Rowan McCormick, who's been coming since she was 6 years old, Chengyan Boon, who's been coming since he was 2 weeks old (no, this is not a typo) and Laura Chu. We bid them all a very fond farewell as they embark on their university studies and we shall miss them dearly.

On a different note, we eagerly anticipate our trip to the ballet with some of our older students and their families to see the National Ballet of Canada's production of Alice in Wonderland on Saturday, June 25 @ 2 pm at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. For most of our group, this will be a first and we can't think of a more suitable ballet. We've seen some of the costumes and sets and they look truly fabulous! What a super way to end the schoolyear.

For those wishing to take the Royal Conservatory of Music's summer examinations, be aware that the application deadline is June 1. This is a good goal to have for those who wish to undertake the challenge and students can work towards getting a high school course equivalent credit. Be sure to discuss this with your teacher before registering. When filling out the application, you will be asked for your teacher's RCME number: Ms Lim - 34870; Mr Huggett - 26836. For more information, please visit www.rcmexaminations.org.

We wish all of you joy in all that you do and look forward to welcoming you to the studio for our Spring Celebration.

We have so much exciting news to report! We just received a beautifully handwritten letter from famed neurologist and international best-selling author, Dr Oliver Sacks, in response to our acclaimed CD, A Touch of Serenity. The New York Times has described Dr Sacks as "the poet laureate of medicine". His recent Musicophilia chronicled the cases of his patients and the effect of music on their behaviour - a fascinating read for anyone at all interested in what happens to our brains when we listen to or make music. We at the studio have been great admirers of Dr Sacks's compassionate and intelligent writing about his patients and about his own life. Knowing about his lifelong passion for music, we are especially touched by this honour.

The next bit of exciting news concerns this month's issue of Whole Note magazine, where you will find a highly favourable and insightful review about A Touch of Serenity - glowingly described as a "feast of serenity". Click here to read the review.

We also received a very complimentary message regarding Serenity from Canada's former Governor-General, the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson - a most distinguished patron of the arts. The list of luminaries enjoying A Touch of Serenity just keeps on growing! We are so pleased that this special album is giving pleasure to so many people around the world.

There are no classes over Thanksgiving, October 9 - 11, except for the Saturday morning group. We wish all of our students and their families a very joyous Thanksgiving - we're sure you each have plenty to celebrate. Lessons resume as normal on Tuesday, October 12.

Well, the Fall term at the studio is off to a great start. It's wonderful to welcome back our returning boys and girls, as well as new faces for us to inspire and nurture!

Of course, we are also thrilled to finally have this fabulous website up and running. Expect to check this site to get updates in future. In the meantime, do check out our listen! page where you'll be able to see what musical luminaries around the world are saying about A Touch of Serenity. You'll also be able to enjoy listening to excerpts from the album there.

Mr and Mrs Huggett and Ms Lim wish all of you a year filled with joy and learning... and lots of super music-making!
